The full motorsports season is finally on, as it is also in the virtual world with GT Academy starting soon. On April 5 in Japan, the first round of the Super GT “Okayama GT300km race” has seen the debut of Lucas Ordóñez, the first GT Academy Champion, in the GT500 Class (the full race footage is available on NISMO TV for some countries outside of Japan).
The GT-R that won the Bathurst 12 Hours race this February comes to Japan! On Saturday, March 21 at the NISMO showroom (Tsurumi ku, Yokohama city, Kanagawa prefecture), a “Bathurst Victory/Super GT Champion Commemorative Event” was held. GT Academy graduates Wolfgang “Wolfie” Reip and Florian Strauss, together with Masakazu Chiyo (who won the 12 Hour race together with them) will be at the event. Last year’s Super GT champions, Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli will also be there in person for the celebration. The Mid-Field Raceway was added in an update at the end of last month, and we received a lot of great comments about it – thank you all! Of course real tracks are important too, but it’s good to look back on our history sometimes. There were probably lots of players who remembered the license events of the past which involved this track.
In the upcoming Ver. 1.16 update, a brand new B-Spec will be introduced. In the former versions of B-Spec, there were probably many of you who were dissatisfied with the AI, with moments like “why is he letting off of the gas there!?” and “why aren’t you using the slipstream!!”… In the B-Spec of Gran Turismo 6, in addition to selecting the pacing in a continually fixed command, you will now be able to intervene with more control over your AI. Overtaking, use of slipstreams, lane changes, and even throttle/braking can be controlled in real time.
The Mid-Field Raceway that had gone missing since Gran Turismo 4 is coming back in an upcoming update.
The track was always at the top ranks of user requests, right next to the Seattle circuit. 15 years since its first inclusion in Gran Turismo 2, everything has evolved to Gran Turismo 6 quality, with weather and time changes as well as other course side objects.
The victory at the Bathurst 12 hour race on February 8 (local time) was the ultimate result for the GT Academy. As you can tell from the list of drivers in the results, they took the overall win while overcoming battle hardened factory drivers of other manufacturers. It was a dramatic race that is sure to be remembered in motorsports history. The last victory for Nissan on Mount Panorama was in 1992, at the peak of Group A racing. 23 years from that Bathurst 1000 victory brought about by the Skyline GT-R (R32), Japan’s Godzilla is once again king of the Aussie mountain.
GT Academy’s Wolfgang Reip will be racing the Bathurst 12 hour race that will be held on February 6th. Expectations are high for the 2nd challenge by the NISMO Athlete Global Team in this event. Also known as “Wolfie”, he is the 2012 European GT Academy champion, and was in Japan for the NISMO Festival last year.
A one-make race using the Mégane Trophy will be appearing in the Quick Match. This is a race using cars in the garage, so you can take a car that you’ve tuned to your preference. The first round is at the Nürburgring GP/F, one of the tracks where the real world Mégane Trophy race actually takes place.
From the latest custom cars to classics, the Tokyo Auto Salon displays a variety of custom cars regardless of new or old. In recent years both domestic and import car manufacturers have participated in the event, increasing the scale of the showfloor every year. Its not possible to see all the booths in a single day anymore.
For the qualifiers of the 3rd round of the Super Gran Turismo Championship, the fastest ranked players of Japan gathered from across the nation. Gamers who proved their worth in the past in the BMW Z4 challenge and Shell V-Power Exciting Championship came to test their skill against Super GT Drivers. The selection of the track and car for the qualifier was what you would expect in tune with the Auto Salon, being held on the Tsukuba Circuit using the RE Amemiya FD3S RX-7.
