Our travels continued from the Nürburgring 24 hour race. After departing Germany by plane to London, Heathrow, we drove an hour and a half south east to Chichester, West Sussex, , to the world famous Goodwood Festival of Speed. If you’re a GT6 player you’ll immediately recognize this as the actual location of the hill climb race in the game, to which you receive an invitation from Lord March, the host of the event. Friday is here. In the hour when our car should have been driving in the qualifier, it was still in the tent. But the staff who delivered breakfast for the mechanics working straight through the night were in for a surprise.
Thursday, the driving sessions begin, and the official practice and the first qualifying session take place on this day. Guests arrive at the lounge one after another, and the staff provides hospitality for everyone despite the language barrier.
Our 7th year challenging the Nürburgring 24 hour race. We develop the car through participation in the VLN Endurance Series starting in and around March every year, and the annual 24 hour race is our main objective. The front lines of this battlefield has provided a great contribution to the game development of Gran Turismo, as a testing ground for a variety of factors involved in building a racing car.
On the other hand, the participation in this race has also been a very fruitful place of activity for our Polyphony Digital team members. Starting from the preparation before departure, over 20 of our staff travel to Germany, pick up rental cars at the airport, drive through the Autobahn to the circuit, and work day and night together until the end of the final race.
